Personal information

I'm origionally from NYC, but have been living in Wash. DC for a while. I enjoy speaking German, but, it doesn't help with dating, at least not so far.......I'm always hopeful, though.

I lived in London for a number of years while training at a London Hospital, and still return to visit as often as time and finances will allow after having returned to the U.S., now there's a foreign tongue. I found that we share the same language with the British but have little in common re: speech itself. And, "things" in the U.K. are rarely named in a common manner with their American counterparts (apt./flat; canned/tinned meat; fries/chips; hood/bonnet; trunk/boot; "knock up".........a very different meaning altogether.

I majored in chemistry in college, completed a Ph.D. in Clin. Biochem. prior to gaining admission to Med School. My current vocational activities include teaching and service as an adjunct medical examiner. I have been a member of the Navy Reserve since completeing medical education. I am still on active status (Captain, M.C., USNR), as my naval service permits me the opportunity to care for patients (trauma surgery).

I am not a linguist, not even close, as so many "dict.cc" members are. I'm of Austrian ancestry, but all of my known relatives speak/spoke English. I learned to speak German in High School, and took classes in intermed. & adv. German and German literature while in college (Columbia University).

I've been using this site as my dictionary, especially with regard to colloquial German, for a good while. It has been most helpful in that regard. So I decided, one day, to click on "CONTRIBUTE", and now I'm making my very humble attempt at making a small contribution to the body of knowledge.

Thanks for visiting.
