Personal information

I was born in Chicago in 1939; after undergraduate work in history and philosophy, I completed an MA in philosophy in 1964 and an MA in theology in 1967. I then moved to Germany, where I earned a doctorate from the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Tübingen in 1974, with Prof. Hans Küng as my director.
From 1974 to 1979 I produced maps of the history of the Byzantine Empire from 500 to 1500 for the Tübingen Atlas of the Middle East.
From 1979 to 2004 I served as a documentalist and librarian for theology at the Tübingen University Library, during which time I studied intensively the principles and techniques of knowledge organization. I retired in 2004.
I have occasionally tutored Germans learning English, and I frequently work as a free-lance translator (generally only from German to English) in the fields of theology and psychology.
I am an associate of Prof. Küng's Global Ethics Foundation and of the Institute of Ecumenical Research under Prof. Hilberath of the Tübingen Catholic Theological Faculty.
My main intellectual interests are cognitive psychology and sociology, the dialog between the natural sciences and philosophy / theology, ecumenical dialog especially with the Orthodox Churches; Judaism and Islam. I am also interested in history and politics, art, literature and music.
